What Determines the Price of Store Shelving Systems?

Store shelving prices are driven by material quality, sheet thickness, dimensions and quantity, the share of custom production, design and installation service. We break down every item that affects the price.

What Determines the Price of Store Shelving Systems?

The main factors that determine the price of store shelving systems are: the material used and its sheet thickness, shelf dimensions and total quantity, whether it's a standard module or custom production, the surface finish (paint/electrostatic coating), and whether design + delivery + installation are included in the package. That's why the gap between two quotes usually comes down to material and scope of service.

The main items that set the price

1. Material and sheet thickness

Sheet steel of 0.7–1.0 mm is used depending on the load the shelf will carry. Thicker sheet and a quality upright profile raise the cost, but they also raise durability and load capacity. Your choice between metal and wood also has a direct effect on the price.

2. Dimensions and quantity

As the total shelf footage grows, the unit cost generally falls. Height, depth and the need for custom sizing, on the other hand, push the price up.

3. Standard module vs custom production

Standard gondola and wall shelving modules are the most economical solution. Mid-floor units, front-of-checkout stands or units designed specifically for your brand cost more, because they are custom production. Remember, though, that even "standard" modules at Kare Raf are cut to your store's measurements after a free site survey — nothing ships as generic mass production.

4. Surface and finish

Electrostatic powder coating delivers long life and a clean look. Wood cladding, custom colors or accessories such as pegboard are added to the budget.

5. Design, delivery and installation

In turnkey projects, 3D design, delivery and installation are included in the price. Buying just the shelving and arranging your own installation may look cheaper at first glance, but with mismatches and labor costs it usually ends up more expensive.

What to check when comparing quotes

CheckWhy it matters
Sheet thickness (mm)Thin sheet means a low price but low strength
Scope (design/installation included?)A quote that excludes services can be misleading
Warranty periodAn indicator of quality and brand confidence
Spare parts / module compatibilityCritical for adding on later
